Do  you really know  and understand how to use links on your web site?

Most people will probably answer,  ‘ of course I do’.

It is highly unlikely that they do because  even experienced internet marketers get a bit lost when it comes to website links.

Firstly if you regard your  website as a whole, you must first consider that there is more than one type of link, and you must understand the relevance of each type of link;

  • Navigation Links :  navigation links lead visitors between the various pages on your website. Some links might be on every page, and others not, do you know what links should  be on each page?
  • Product links : product links lead prospective buyers to the products you are advertising. Where do these links lead?

Good mutual reciprocal links may help you to improve your site rank in the search engines, while bad links or over-flooded links may ruin your site ranking. Keep in mind that good ranking also needs a good content , so make sure you have quality content along with the quality links.

Now go over each link individually, do they lead to another page on your website, or do they lead the visitor away and on to another person’s website? In other words to  an affiliate webpage. If so, have you checked how easy it is for your visitor to get back to your website? Are they now gone for ever?

What if your link leads to an information page? Some people have links to such sites as Wikipedia or other such  information sites.

Be selective about the sites from which you request links. Search engines use sophisticated rules when judging the importance of a link, and the popularity of the site linking to you is a key criteria. One link from  a high Ranking site is worth far more than a link from a personal web site.

Below are  8 tips to keep in mind when exchanging links:

1. Relevant : The  websites with who you exchange links with must be relevant to your website.

2. Good Content : Websites should have good content, and the content must be  relevant too.

3. Selective : Websites should not have more than 20 links on that particular page on which your link will be shown.

4. Anchor Text :Your links title should be followed by a meaningful and positive  description of your website.

5. Link Manually :  Try to avoid linking through software it will be better if performed manually.

6. Keywords:Your links anchor text should be a little  descriptive in stead of merely containing a single  or multiple keywords.

7.  SE. Friendly : The link page must be indexed in Google and in all other major search engines too.

8. Navigation : The link should directly go to your site and not  through any  redirection technique.

Beware of  flooding your sites with reciprocal links - Many a times, having lots of links may hamper your site’s credibility and the focus of the site visitor. The reciprocal links look good and attracts the site visitor when it maintains the navigation ease.

However if  your website is flooded with links, it can hamper the ’stick to the content’ quality, and thus, harming your website’s popularity.

Use free tools for links exchange - Using free tools for link exchange can help you to get into the proper traffic. So, use free tools for your links exchange and make sure they are providing you good links.

Is your WebSite a Google Magnet

June 5th, 2008

If you want your  home based business website to be a Google Magnet, then  it is important to set-up a good link campaign.

Link popularity and link quality are very important because every major search engine now considers them as a part of their ranking algorithms. If you don’t have links, your home based website will not  rank well for competitive keywords.
Good inbound links can move your page up the ranking ladder and act as new entry points to your site. But how does your site get those coveted inbound links we hear so much about?

Fortunately, there are a lot of ways to improve your link quality and popularity, which will give you a boost in the rankings.

First off, let’s make sure we understand the basics,

  • Link popularity :  is the measure of inbound links to your web site.
  • Link analysis : evaluates which sites are linking to you and the link text itself.
  • One Way Links : When your website links to an external website or vice versa.
  • Reciprocal Links : when both your website and an external website link to each other.
  • 3Way links : when website A links to website B and website B links to website C.

There are two types of links which we could acquire through link exchanges, the first one of all is a superior link and the second one is a quantity link.

  • Superior Link: acquiring a link inside a quality website, which is having extremely relevant content and as well a good Page Rank, is called a quality link. 10 quality links are a lot more beneficial then 50 quantity links.
  • Quantity Link: Quantity links are links which you will be able to get easy through the free directories, unsuitable websites and free link directories. Quantity links are not as good as quality links.

How to Find Links.

The chore of finding suitable link exchange partners is extremely time consuming, because  a lot of time will be  spent on  researching, emailing and generally doing everything that needs to be done to exchange links, but you will usually have very few successful link exchanges to show for your efforts.

These days  if you do not use ethical link exchange sites or software and other online tools designed to make reciprocal link exchange faster and more efficient, there is little chance that you will succeed.

There are  very effective reciprocal linking tools on the net. Some of these tools are even free. They will help your reciprocal link campaign take off so that you will be able to accumulate dozens of links every week pointing at your  home based business website.

One particular free tool  shows you sites that are looking for link partners as well as their PR and exactly what they are looking for. This will tend to save you a lot of time, which you would ordinarily spend on research and trying to identify possible link exchange partners.

Finally

Link popularity is important and the link building process needs to be given high priority. Link analysis is only going to get more important to search engines, not less.  Since link building takes time, the sooner you start the better.
So think of link building as a long-term investment in your site.

Use Links to increase Website Ranking

April 16th, 2008

Discover how to use linking to improve your home business website ranking, these tips may not make your website appear in the 10 ten list, but they will help you move up  in the ranking list.

Why Build Links ?

The purpose of building links is to provide value for you visitor and when a webmaster from another site links to you, that link should also provide value to his visitor. So don’t look just to exchange links- Look to exchange value.

If done correctly, Links are also a very important source of traffic for your home business website.
You may even find that some links bring more traffic than the search engines. In addition, the traffic provided by links is generally consistent and not subject to the vagaries of your search engine ranking.
Types of Links

One-Way Inbound Links

The best type of links to get are simple inbound links. These are obtained by other website owners linking to you because you are considered an authority in a particular filed or the article/web page is particularly relevant. These type of links will come if you produce high quality content web pages on your home business website.

The other way of getting simple inbound links is from directories. Most, but not all, directories will list your website without requiring you to link to them.

Reciprocal Links

The next stage is to build inbound links by using a link exchange mechanism. You link to a website and in return they will link back to you. This type of link is a reciprocal link.
The important thing to remember when exchanging links to other sites is to only exchange links to websites that are relevant to your own  home business website theme.
Link Exchange Process

The first step is to find Websites to Exchange links with. There are two ways of doing this the manual method or by using software tools that will search out related websites for you.

Manual Link Exchange Method
In order to find  home business websites that are willing to exchange links  do a search on your keywords and then take a look at the competitors websites resource/links page. This page contains links to other websites from the competitors site .
Forms of Link Cheating

Link Farms - Stay Clear.
A link farm is basically a website of links and nothing else. Be very wary of any promotion or offer that promises to put your link and x thousand websites. Don’t exchange links with any site you suspect as being part of a link farm.

Ignore spam and websites that offer to submit your website to hundreds of search engines. At best these are wastes of time or money and at worst they can actually hurt your ranking.

Finally

It’s very easy to exchange links with the sole target being to have as many as possible so that you achieve a high PR only to find that it doesn’t affect your rankings and it takes a massive amount of time.

If you would like to exchange links with a good content site, then go to Home Based Business Opportunities and look for the Link to US form, add your details to (add your site here)

You should aim to get around 10 good links relatively early from directories and themed hubs and then build links gradually as needed or as and when you find a good site to link with.
